American country music legend, Dolly Parton, recorded a secret song in 2015 that will not be released until 2045, when a time capsule containing the track is scheduled to be opened.
Parton, who died on August 25, 2026, at the age of 80, recorded the unreleased song to mark the opening of her resort and spa at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

The song was placed inside a time capsule at the resort, along with a CD player and a cassette player, and will remain sealed until the resort celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2045.
Parton previously spoke about the unusual project during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show in 2021, revealing that she had written and recorded a song that nobody would hear until she was 99.
The country icon joked about the long wait, saying she hoped she would still be alive when the capsule was eventually opened.
Parton also expressed concern that the recording could deteriorate before its scheduled release. She explained that she was particularly worried about the song surviving for three decades inside the capsule.
The singer later revealed more about the recording during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2023.
According to Parton, she had begun regretting placing the song in the time capsule because she believed it was particularly good.
She jokingly said she had repeatedly wanted to retrieve the recording and replace it with another song that was not as good.
The decision to include both a CD player and cassette player in the time capsule was deliberate. Parton said she wanted future generations to understand how music was played during the period when the capsule was created.
The time capsule is expected to remain sealed until 2045, when Dollywood’s resort and spa marks its 30th anniversary.
By then, Parton would have been 99 years old.
Although her death means she will not be present for the scheduled unveiling, the mystery surrounding the recording has created renewed interest in the song among her fans.
For admirers of the late music icon, the 2045 opening will offer a rare opportunity to hear a previously unreleased Dolly Parton recording that she herself described as a very good song.
The contents of the time capsule, including the mystery track and the vintage playback equipment, are expected to provide a musical time capsule of Parton’s career and the era in which the song was recorded.
Until then, the song remains one of the most unusual unreleased recordings in Dolly Parton’s remarkable musical legacy.
