“He Died Without a Child After 10 Years of Marriage,” Family of Slain Oyo Teacher Laments

The family of Michael Oyedokun, the schoolteacher abducted and later beheaded by suspected terrorists in Oyo State, has described his death as a painful and irreplaceable loss, lamenting that he died without a child after more than a decade of marriage.

Oyedokun was among several teachers kidnapped during coordinated attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State last Friday.

The deceased teacher was abducted alongside some of his colleagues from Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, when armed men invaded the school premises.

Other schools attacked during the incident included Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, and LA Primary School, Ogbomoso.
The attacks reportedly claimed the lives of an assistant headmaster, Joel Adesiyan, and a commercial motorcyclist, while several residents and school workers sustained injuries.

Following the attacks, the Oyo State Government ordered the closure of schools in four local government areas as security agencies intensified efforts to rescue victims still in captivity.

Tension heightened after a disturbing video allegedly released by the kidnappers surfaced online, showing Oyedokun tied up and forced to speak before he was eventually killed.
The video sparked outrage among residents and renewed concerns over insecurity in parts of Oyo State.

Speaking during a visit to the deceased’s hometown, a family representative, Ebeni Adediran, described Oyedokun as a peaceful, humble and dedicated teacher who spent over two decades serving in the education sector.

According to him, the late teacher began his education in his hometown before attending Ogbomoso Baptist High School and later furthering his studies.

He said Oyedokun worked as a teacher for about 21 years, including years spent teaching in Oke Ogun before he was transferred back to his home community last year.
“He was a calm and peaceful person who disliked violence,” Adediran said.

“He was very accommodating and always made out time to visit his aged parents either every weekend or at least once in two weeks after he returned home.”

The grieving family said his death had created a huge vacuum because of his close relationship with relatives and members of the community.
“He was a good man and his death is an irreplaceable loss to us. The pain is indescribable,” Adediran added.

The family also revealed that one of the most heartbreaking aspects of the tragedy was that Oyedokun died without having a child despite being married for over 10 years.

“The painful part is that he left no child behind. He had a wife, but they had no child despite being married for more than 10 years,” he said.

Meanwhile, the bereaved family has appealed to Nigerians to stop circulating graphic videos and images related to the murdered teacher, saying the repeated sharing of the content has continued to worsen their emotional trauma.

In a statement, the family appreciated Nigerians for their support and sympathy but urged the public to respect their grief and allow them to mourn in peace.

“We truly appreciate the love, concern and sympathy shown to our family during this painful period,” the statement read.
“However, the continuous circulation of those videos and images is deeply traumatizing for us as a family.

“His loved ones, nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives have been emotionally devastated, especially as these contents continue to appear on social media.”
