Drama as Gbenga Daniel Barred from APC Caucus Meeting in Ogun

There was mild drama on Monday in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, as former governor and serving senator, Gbenga Daniel, was denied entry into a caucus meeting of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun East Senatorial District.

The meeting, which held at Adeola Odutola College in Ijebu-Ode, was reportedly convened to deliberate on key party matters, including the contest for the Ogun East senatorial ticket ahead of the next election cycle.

Daniel, who currently represents Ogun East in the Senate, is seeking a second term. However, his ambition has set him on a collision course with the incumbent governor of the state, Dapo Abiodun, who is also believed to be eyeing the same senatorial seat under the APC platform.

The rivalry between the two political heavyweights has been identified as a major source of tension within the party in the state, with Monday’s incident further highlighting the deepening cracks within the Ogun APC.

Eyewitness accounts and viral videos circulating online showed that the vehicle conveying Daniel to the venue was stopped at the entrance gate, preventing him from gaining access to the meeting. Individuals stationed at the gate were seen engaging in heated exchanges with those outside, while efforts were made to secure his entry.

In another clip, supporters of the former governor were heard chanting “OGD! OGD!” in solidarity, as one of his aides confronted those behind the locked gate over the development.

Addressing his supporters at the scene, Daniel expressed frustration over the situation, revealing that he had arrived at the venue as early as 10:00 am but was denied access.

“Today is our caucus meeting in Ijebu-Ode. I arrived at 10:00 am, but they said I could not enter,” he said. “If they do anything here today and I am not allowed to participate, whatever they do will be null and void. Leave them, let them continue to play.”

Sources within the party indicated that critical decisions regarding the Ogun East senatorial ticket may be taken at the meeting, raising concerns about the legitimacy of any resolutions reached in the absence of one of the key contenders.

As of the time of filing this report, Daniel had yet to gain access to the meeting venue, while party officials remained silent on the circumstances surrounding his exclusion.
