Amid rising political tension in Oyo State, Sola Ladoja, son of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, has clarified that the visit of the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Debo Ogundoyin, to his father was political but not connected to any impeachment plot, financial inducement, or alleged opposition party discussions.
Shola made the clarification following widespread reactions to his earlier comments, which had been interpreted by some as evidence of a broader political conspiracy in the state.
In a post addressing the controversy, he explained that his earlier reference to “receipts” was misunderstood, noting that he was referring to conversations and not any financial transactions.

“My recent tweet was deleted because I realised a lot of people thought I meant a payment receipt. No. I meant receipt of our conversations,” he said.
He maintained that while the meeting between the Speaker and the monarch had a political undertone, it did not involve any discussion about impeachment, monetary inducement, or coordination with opposition elements.
“Yes, the visit was political, but there was nothing like impeachment discussions, no APC agenda, and no money involved,” he clarified.
Shola reiterated that he facilitated the meeting after being approached by the Speaker, but warned against attaching meanings that could inflame the already tense political atmosphere in the state.
The clarification comes amid ongoing speculation over alleged moves to destabilise the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde, claims which have been consistently denied by key stakeholders.
Earlier, a lawmaker representing Egbeda State Constituency, Sunkanmi Babalola, dismissed reports linking him and others to secret meetings aimed at impeaching the governor, describing such allegations as baseless and the handiwork of “mischief-makers.”
Babalola had also rejected claims of financial inducement ranging from N250m to N1bn, insisting that lawmakers could not be swayed against the mandate of the people.
“The people of Oyo State spoke clearly when they elected Governor Seyi Makinde. No amount of money can subvert that mandate,” he said.
Observers say Shola’s clarification may help calm growing speculation, even as it confirms that political consultations are ongoing among key actors ahead of future developments in the state.
As of the time of filing this report, the Speaker, Ogundoyin, has yet to officially respond to the claims.
