Poly Ibadan Council Chair Leads Delegation to 3rd-Day Fidau of Prof. Owolabi’s Mother

The Chairman of the Governing Council of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Professor Lanre Nassar, on Sunday led members of the council to Odo-Oba, Ibadan, for the third-day Fidau prayer held in honour of the late Alhaja Oloye Adikat Karinapo Mudashiru Adepoju.

Alhaja Adepoju, mother of Governing Council member, Prof. Mudashiru Lateef Owolabi, was said to have passed away on Friday, February 27, 2026. The Fidau prayer, held on March 1, 2026, was organised by the family in accordance with Islamic rites observed after burial.

Prof. Owolabi is also a lecturer at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology. It was gathered that Prof. Nassar had earlier paid a condolence visit to the family before leading the council delegation to the prayer session.

Delivering a sermon at the event, Sheikh Ahmad Parada urged the family to remain steadfast in faith, noting that death is an inevitable end for all mortals. He admonished the children and loved ones of the deceased to uphold her values and sustain the legacy of righteousness and service she lived for.

Speaking at the gathering, Prof. Nassar described the late matriarch as a pillar whose impact would continue to resonate through her children and the lives she touched. He prayed for the repose of her soul and asked God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Other council members who accompanied the chairman also offered prayers and words of comfort, stating that the late Alhaja Adepoju’s life was worthy of honour and remembrance.

Among those in the chairman’s entourage were the Deputy Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Mrs. Olaide Oluwatoyin Salawu; the Registrar, Mr. Adewunmi Joseph Ogunjimi; the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Soladoye Adewole; Senior Deputy Registrar, Mrs Folasade Yoloye; Hon. Tajudeen Olori; Mr Jelili Sumonu, Dr. Oyin Adejobi, among others.

Dignitaries present at the Fidau prayer included the Oyo State PDP Deputy Chairman, Wasiu Adeleke, alongside family members, friends, community leaders and well-wishers who gathered to pay their last respects and pray for eternal rest for the deceased.
