Nigeria’s Super Eagles have climbed to 26th position in the latest FIFA World Ranking released on Monday, recording a significant 12-place jump following their impressive performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
The Super Eagles rose from their previous 38th position after finishing third at the continental tournament, where they delivered one of their strongest outings in recent years.

With the new ranking, Nigeria is now the third-best team in Africa, trailing only AFCON finalists Senegal, who are ranked 12th globally, and host nation Morocco, placed eighth in the world.
Algeria and Egypt, both of whom were knocked out of the tournament by Nigeria, occupy the fourth and fifth positions respectively on the African ranking.
The Eagles enjoyed an outstanding AFCON campaign, winning six of their seven matches. Their only defeat came in the semi-finals against host nation Morocco, where they lost on penalties.
Nigeria sealed third place at the tournament with a convincing 4–2 victory over Egypt in the playoff match on Saturday.
At the global level, Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Croatia make up the world’s top 10 national teams.
The latest rankings were released by world football governing body FIFA.
