“With great sadness, we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnanu Adeoye (Omije Ojumi), who passed away on 12th January 2026 at a Lagos hospital in Nigeria,” the statement read, praying for her eternal rest.

The singer’s death comes months after she publicly appealed for prayers while struggling with a worsening leg condition. In October 2025, Akinnaanu was seen during a church service at G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State, where she received prayers while seated with her affected leg elevated. The moment drew widespread concern among fans and the Christian community.

A cleric at the service disclosed that the gospel singer had been experiencing persistent bleeding from the leg and called for intensive prayers for her recovery.

Bunmi Akinnaanu began her musical journey at the age of 10 and later made a bold decision to leave a career in banking to pursue gospel music full-time. She rose to national prominence with Omije Ojumi, a deeply emotional worship song that resonated with many Nigerian Christians and became a regular feature in churches and homes.

She followed up with other inspirational songs, including O Ti Sure, further cementing her place in Nigeria’s gospel music space.

Following the announcement of her death, tributes have continued to pour in from colleagues, fans, and church communities who remember her for her powerful voice, heartfelt worship, and dedication to ministry.
