How My Sister-in-Law Allegedly Bled to Death During Lab Test in Ibadan – Businessman

A businessman, Mr Akin Olaoye, has accused Redeemer’s Health Center, Ibadan, of alleged medical negligence following the death of his elder brother’s wife, Mrs Oladunni Grace Otitoju, after a routine laboratory procedure at the facility.

Olaoye alleged that Mrs Otitoju died after medical personnel at the clinic cut her veins while attempting to collect blood samples for laboratory tests.

According to him, the deceased had recently relocated to Ibadan to focus on her farming business and had visited the health facility for pre-travel medical tests ahead of an intended trip to the United States.

In a series of posts on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Olaoye claimed that the procedure went wrong when health workers repeatedly punctured her veins, leading to excessive bleeding.

“She was very healthy but bled to death,” Olaoye wrote, alleging that her condition deteriorated rapidly before she was eventually transferred by ambulance to Oyomeshi Specialist Hospital, Orogun, Ibadan.

He said Mrs Otitoju was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit at about 1:45 a.m. on November 21, 2025, but her condition had already become critical.

“By the time she got to the ICU, it was like giving medicine after death. Her arteries had been compromised and could no longer circulate blood effectively, which led to multiple organ failure,” he alleged.

Olaoye further claimed that the repeated attempts to draw blood resulted in severe complications, including swelling of her limbs and poor oxygen circulation, which he said contributed to her death.

Describing the incident as “a preventable disaster,” the businessman expressed grief over the loss of his sister-in-law, whom he described as an “amazing wife and devoted family member.”

Mrs Otitoju, who was born in November 1962, died later in November 2025. Her death has since sparked widespread reactions and discussions on social media, with many Nigerians calling for accountability in the health sector.

As of the time of filing this report, Redeemer’s Health Center had yet to issue an official statement on the allegations. The Oyo State Ministry of Health and relevant regulatory bodies have also not released any report on the incident.

Olaoye, however, said he would pursue justice for his late sister-in-law and called on health authorities to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.
