The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old man, Peter Adubi, over the alleged defilement of a 13-year-old girl in Ibadan.
The arrest followed a report lodged at the police station on Thursday, January 8, by the minor’s guardian, who raised the alarm after observing unusual sexualised behavioural changes in the child.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the guardian, upon gently questioning the minor, discovered that she had allegedly been sexually abused in 2022 while living with her mother in the Molade area of Ibadan.
The police said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly committed the act during that period, prompting immediate medical intervention to establish the facts surrounding the allegation.
“The minor was promptly taken to a hospital for medical examination, where findings confirmed sexual abuse. This medical evidence further strengthened the case against the suspect and guided subsequent investigative steps,” the statement read.
Following the medical report, Adubi was taken into custody by the police. The crime scene was also visited as part of the investigation, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Gender Desk, for discreet and thorough investigation.
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Femi Haruna, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the protection of vulnerable members of society, particularly children, while assuring residents that justice would be diligently pursued.
Haruna also commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his leadership and guidance, which he said continue to strengthen the Command’s resolve in tackling crimes, especially sexual and gender-based violence.
The police urged residents of the state to remain vigilant and promptly report cases of sexual abuse, stressing that community cooperation remains critical to safeguarding children and ensuring a safer society.
Residents can report emergencies through the Oyo State Call Response Centre toll-free line 615, or the Command Control Room on 08081768614 and 07055495413.
