Police Arrest Two Over Farmer’s Wrist Amputation, Defilement of 8-Year-Old in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in separate incidents involving the amputation of a farmer’s wrist in Tede and the alleged defilement of an eight-year-old girl in Ibadan.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday.

According to the police, the first incident occurred in Tede, a town in the Oke Ogun geopolitical zone of the state, where a farmer, identified as Benua Bukari, allegedly had an altercation with one Sunday James. The disagreement reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, during which the suspect allegedly used a cutlass to sever the farmer’s right wrist.

Ayanlade said operatives from the Tede Divisional Police Headquarters, led by the Divisional Police Officer, swiftly mobilised to the scene after the incident was reported, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

“The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital by the police, where he is currently receiving medical attention,” the statement said, adding that the suspect is in custody while investigations continue.

In a separate development, the police also confirmed the arrest of another suspect over the alleged defilement of an eight-year-old girl in Ibadan, the state capital.

The police spokesperson said the case was reported after the minor complained of pain to her father and alleged that she had been sexually violated by their neighbour, identified as Olaitan Oloyede, aged 27, sometime in October 2025.

He said the Oke Alaro Police Division promptly commenced investigations, which led to the arrest of the suspect.

“The suspect has been placed in lawful custody and is cooperating with the investigation, as the police continue further inquiries,” Ayanlade stated.

The Oyo State Police Command assured the public that both cases would be thoroughly investigated and that those found culpable would be prosecuted in line with the law.
