FRSC Osun Distributes Free Branded Table Water to Motorists in Gbongan, Calls for Safer Driving Practices

The Gbongan Unit Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Monday, 29 December 2025 embarked on the free distribution of branded table water to motorists travelling on the Ibadan‑Gbongan‑Ife Expressway.

The initiative, a brainchild of FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed, mni, is a deliberate effort to give back to society and simultaneously spread the road‑safety message to the public in a unique manner during the 2025 end‑of‑year FRSC special operations.

The exercise, led by Acting Unit Commander Jude U. Odinfono, PhD, MISPON, involved deploying officers and marshals to strategic, high‑traffic locations along the road corridor, including Salam Salam Junction, Gbongan Flyover Approach and Wakajaye Junction.

The officers handed out free bottles of FRSC‑branded table water and engaged drivers and passengers on the need to take responsibility for their safety while using the roads during this period and to commit to arriving alive and well.

The exercise, aimed at promoting safe driving practices while supporting the wellbeing of motorists during the peak festive travel period, was covered by members of the press from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Osun State Chapter.

The Unit Commander stated that the exercise reflects the love the FRSC has for motorists, under the visionary and transformative leadership of the Corps Marshal.

He further explained that the water‑distribution initiative was introduced to help drivers remain refreshed, alert and physically fit, particularly during long‑distance journeys common in the Yuletide season, thereby reducing fatigue‑related crashes.

In addition to the humanitarian gesture, officers and marshals engaged motorists through direct interpersonal sensitisation, focusing on critical road‑safety issues such as the dangers of distracted driving (especially phone use while driving), the importance of seat‑belt and crash‑helmet compliance, avoidance of speeding, wrongful overtaking and route violations, the risks associated with drink‑driving and fatigue‑induced driving, and the need for proper vehicle maintenance before embarking on journeys.

Road‑safety flyers containing concise safety tips were also distributed to motorists to further reinforce the campaign messages.

Traffic‑control and calming measures were implemented where necessary to ensure smooth vehicular flow and the safety of both road users and FRSC personnel throughout the exercise.

The initiative recorded a high level of acceptance and positive feedback from motorists, many of whom expressed appreciation for the thoughtful intervention and timely safety reminders.

Transport operators, commuters and journalists commended the Corps for effectively combining humanitarian support with sustained road‑safety enlightenment during the festive period, and for adopting people‑centred and innovative approaches to road‑safety advocacy.

Overall, the exercise significantly strengthened the Corps’ Yuletide Road Safety Campaign by enhancing public engagement, reducing driver fatigue and reinforcing responsible road use.
