Behind the Scenes Crosses ₦1bn, Sets New West African Box Office Record

Nollywood star Funke Akindele has once again rewritten the record books as her latest cinema release, Behind the Scenes, crossed the ₦1 billion box office mark, emerging as the fastest film in West Africa to achieve the feat.

The movie has so far grossed ₦1,109,463,846 nationwide, reflecting strong audience turnout and sustained momentum weeks after its release. The milestone was disclosed by the film’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, in a statement shared via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday.

According to FilmOne, Behind the Scenes not only became the fastest West African film to cross ₦1 billion, it also recorded the highest single-day box office gross ever on Boxing Day, pulling in ₦129.5 million in one day.

“Fastest film in West Africa to cross ₦1B+,” the distributor announced, adding that the movie delivered “the highest single-day gross ever on Boxing Day (₦129.5M).”

FilmOne further revealed that the film currently stands as the highest-grossing theatrical release of 2025, consolidating its dominance at the Nigerian box office.

The company also highlighted Akindele’s growing legacy in Nollywood, describing her as the only director to cross ₦1 billion at the box office three different times, and Nollywood’s highest-grossing producer of all time.

In another unprecedented feat, Akindele reportedly became the first filmmaker to deliver three consecutive ₦1 billion-grossing films within a single calendar year, a record yet to be matched in the industry.

Reacting to the milestone, FilmOne expressed appreciation to moviegoers, noting that the achievement reflects collective support for Nigerian cinema.
