Polytechnic Ibadan Puts Student Innovations on Global Display at 40th Convocation

The Polytechnic Ibadan has put its students’ groundbreaking projects on international display as part of its 40th graduation ceremony, showcasing the institution’s reputation as a hub of technical and technological innovation.

The exhibition, which opened on December 16 and will run through the convocation period, features projects from over ten departments, including Arts and Design, Architecture, Tourism, Science, and Engineering. The Faculty of Arts and Design, in particular, has presented a stunning array of works in graphics, print, ceramics, and sculpture, creating a space that resembles a dedicated school of art within the exhibition.

Speaking to journalists, Dr. Sola Alimi, Head of Department of Art, Design, and Print Technology, described the exhibition as more than a display of student work.

“The exhibition is not just a side attraction,” Dr. Alimi said.

“It is a way for the world to understand the academic value of research inculcated into our students over time. Each project addresses a social problem, whether economic, technological, or marketing-related. By showcasing these works, we hope to spur discussions, partnerships, and even Memoranda of Understanding with organizations that can help promote and scale these solutions.”

Dr. Alimi further emphasized the support of the Polytechnic’s management in nurturing student innovation.

“The school has made equipment and funding available across different departments, ensuring students have the resources to develop their ideas into practical solutions,” he said.

“The Polytechnic Ibadan is recognized as a center of innovation. This exhibition allows visitors from across Nigeria and beyond to experience the brilliance of our students and the potential of research-driven solutions they are developing,” he added.

The exhibition coincides with the 40th convocation ceremony, where some students will be recognized and awarded for their exceptional projects. Platforms have also been arranged to allow interactive engagement with the showcased works, providing visitors a closer look at the creativity and problem-solving capacity of the students.

The event is expected to attract dignitaries, including the Ooni of Ife, Oba Babatunde Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II who will grace the occasion. Dr. Alimi highlighted that the exhibition reflects the Polytechnic Ibadan’s enduring commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and real-world impact.
