Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi; and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, are among the eminent personalities expected to grace the 40th convocation ceremony of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, scheduled for Friday, December 19, 2025.
The institution will also confer honours on Oba Ogunwusi and two other distinguished Nigerians during the ceremony.

Ahead of the event, a renowned legal scholar and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Aare Muyiwa Akinboro (SAN), is billed to deliver the convocation lecture titled “Legal Frameworks and Strategies for Addressing Terrorism, Banditry and Insurgency in Nigeria: A Multidimensional Approach” on Thursday, December 18, 2025.
Briefing journalists during a press conference at the institution, the Rector, Dr. Taiwo Lasisi, disclosed that The Polytechnic, Ibadan, currently has no backlog of graduations. Lasisi, represented by the Deputy Rector, Mrs. Olaide Salawu, said the institution is determined to maintain its uninterrupted academic calendar and industrial-dispute-free sessions.
According to her, the Polytechnic has successfully conducted 39 previous convocation ceremonies, producing thousands of National Diploma and Higher National Diploma graduates, as well as Higher School Certificate holders who progressed to universities nationwide.
She noted that the institution continues to excel in accreditation exercises, attributing the success to the consistent financial support provided by Governor Makinde.
“His Excellency has always ensured that funds are available for accreditation and for mounting new programmes. He has encouraged the institution to secure full accreditation for all its programmes,” she said.
Highlighting recent achievements, Salawu revealed that the school presented 42 courses for accreditation by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in April.
“The good news is that the institution scaled through all the programmes,” she announced.
She added that the Polytechnic has also received approval to introduce new academic programmes, including ND Food Science and Technology, ND Transport Planning and Management, ND Crime Management, and HND Science Laboratory Technology, among others.
The convocation ceremony is expected to attract top government officials, traditional rulers, academics, industry leaders, alumni and students.
