An unidentified student of Ambrose Alli University, AAU, Ekpoma, has died in a tragic accident while celebrating the completion of his final examinations.
The fatal incident occurred on Monday, December 8, 2025, near Ujoelen Junction along the Ekpoma–Auchi Expressway. According to reports, the deceased was part of a convoy of fresh graduates who stormed the highway in jubilation after their signing-out activities.

Confirming the incident, the Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Cyril Mathew, said one person died, while five others sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Mathew explained that after writing their final paper, the students formed a motorcade. During the celebration, one of the students attempted to overtake another vehicle but rammed into a stationary truck, leading to the fatal crash. He noted that the students failed to observe basic safety precautions.
The Sector Commander advised graduating students to celebrate within campus areas and always prioritise safety, emphasising that “there is life after graduation.”
Further findings revealed that the deceased had also tried to overtake a moving truck before reportedly colliding with a stationary vehicle.
In recent times, several higher institutions have banned wild jubilation and highway celebrations by students, but such restrictions are often ignored during sign-out ceremonies.
