FG Launches Nationwide Online Classes for Secondary School Students

The Federal Government has unveiled the Inspire Live(s) Online Real-Time Classes Initiative, a nationwide digital learning programme designed to expand access to quality education for schoolchildren across Nigeria.

The initiative, announced on Tuesday by the Federal Ministry of Education, aims to bridge longstanding gaps in the education system, including inadequate teacher supply and frequent disruptions to learning. The ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, described it as “a groundbreaking programme aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

According to the ministry, the programme offers live, interactive classes streamed directly to students across the country, ensuring that “no child is left behind regardless of location or circumstance.”

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, confirmed that full implementation is underway. He said the programme is being expanded to cover all classes from Primary 1 to Senior Secondary 3, with the current phase already hosting online lessons for JSS and SSS students.

Classes run Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and are facilitated by “certified master teachers using Cisco Webex,” the ministry noted.

Subjects Offered

The Inspire platform currently features a broad range of subjects.

For Junior Secondary School students:
Basic Science, Mathematics, English Language, ICT, Agricultural Science, Basic Technology, Civic Education, French, Physical Education, Religious Studies, History, and Business Studies.

For Senior Secondary School learners:
Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Geography, Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing/Catering Craft, Civic Education, and Automobile Mechanics.

States Directed to Support Implementation

To ensure smooth nationwide participation, the ministry has mandated all state Commissioners for Education to take key actions, including nominating a State Focal Officer to coordinate the programme and distributing programme details to all school principals—both public and private.

States have also been instructed to equip designated schools with basic ICT tools and reliable internet connectivity. “The programme requires minimum digital capability for seamless delivery,” the statement emphasised.

Participation registration, the ministry added, must be carried out strictly by school principals through the official Inspire support channels.

Although government-driven, the initiative is open to both public and private schools across the country.
