Poly Ibadan Staff Commend Acting Rector, Dr. Lasisi, for Effective Leadership, Institutional Progress

The congregation of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, comprising teaching and non-teaching staff with a minimum of a university degree or its equivalent  has lauded the Acting Rector, Dr. Taiwo Abideen Lasisi, for his exemplary leadership, administrative competence, and commitment to sustaining peace and progress within the institution.

The commendation followed a presentation by Dr. Lasisi at the institution’s 1000 Capacity Hall, where he highlighted key achievements recorded under his administration in recent months. Staff members observed that under his leadership, the Polytechnic has maintained a smooth and uninterrupted academic calendar for the 2024/2025 session while successfully securing the accreditation and re-accreditation of 35 academic programmes.

In addition, three new programmes — ND Crime Management, HND Fashion Design and Clothing Technology, and HND Science Laboratory Technology (Environmental Biology Option) — recently underwent inspection by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). Similarly, ND Chemical Engineering, ND Transportation Planning and Management, and ND Food Technology were submitted to the NBTE for verification ahead of full accreditation.

The Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Ibadan Branch, praised Dr. Lasisi for his patience, open-door leadership style, and commitment to prompt attention to staff welfare. He noted that potential disputes that could have led to industrial action were averted through the Rector’s proactive engagement and timely response to union demands.

He also commended Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for his continuous support to the institution, especially in the regular payment of staff salaries and financial assistance towards accreditation exercises.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association, Mr. Abiodun Abegunde, applauded the Acting Rector for his dedication to maintaining industrial harmony and swiftly addressing issues that could lead to crises. He acknowledged the personal sacrifices made by the Rector and his management team to ensure peace and stability, pledging continued cooperation with the administration.

In his address, Dr. Lasisi reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency, dialogue, and institutional growth. He disclosed that the institution now enjoys stable electricity, with all outstanding energy debts — including diesel costs — fully settled. A new Energy Management Committee has also been established, and prepaid meters have been installed across staff quarters and critical areas on campus.

The Acting Rector assured that the certificates for the 2024/2025 graduates would be ready before their convocation, just as those of the previous session were. He expressed appreciation to both staff and students for their cooperation and promised to continue prioritizing initiatives that serve the best interests of the Polytechnic community.
