Veteran Journalist Olayode, Celebrates Awakan At 87, Describes Leader As Beacon of Service, Integrity

A veteran journalist and media scholar, Dr Thomas Olayode, has joined family members, friends, and well-wishers in celebrating the 87th birthday of elder statesman and community leader, Chief Titilade Awakan, describing him as a “towering figure of humility, faith, and public service.”

In a heartfelt tribute, Dr Olayode eulogised Chief Awakan as a man whose life “reads like an evidence of classic service, love, and dedication,” noting that his decades of influence across politics, education, and community development have left an indelible mark on Oyo State and beyond.

“Baba mi, Chief Titilade Awakan, at 87, remains a shining example of leadership rooted in faith, compassion, and purpose. As a devoted Christian, your life continues to reflect the grace of God, and your kindness touches all who know you,” Dr Olayode said.

He further praised Chief Awakan’s leadership style, describing him as a “true father of the people” who has spent his life nurturing his community with “the patience of a shepherd.” According to him, Chief Awakan’s leadership transcends politics and stands as a calling to “lift the lowly and speak for the voiceless.”

Reflecting on his years of service, Dr Olayode highlighted Chief Awakan’s remarkable public career, particularly his time as a lawmaker in the Oyo State House of Assembly and as Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Service Commission, where he was celebrated for his diligence, intelligence, and commitment to justice.

“Your political career, though filled with achievements through vicissitudes, has always been a platform for service, not self-gain. You have shown that a politician can be both effective and ethical,” Olayode added.

Describing the octogenarian as his “mentor, teacher, leader, and supporter,” Dr Olayode noted that Chief Awakan’s integrity, humility, and courage have shaped generations and inspired a legacy of honest and people-centred leadership.

As Chief Awakan clocks 87, Dr Olayode prayed for his continued health and joy, calling him a “public treasure” whose life of selflessness and compassion will continue to inspire future generations.

“Happy birthday, Baba mi, Asiwaju. May your light keep shining and your days be filled with the satisfaction of a life well-lived. Ogo ni fun Jesu,” he concluded.
