A tragic accident in Lokoja, Kogi State, has claimed the life of a lecturer at the Federal University Lokoja (FUL). The deceased, identified as Mrs. Kemi Emmanuel of the Department of Theatre Arts, was crushed to death by an articulated truck on the Crusher-Felele axis of the Lokoja-Abuja Expressway.

The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday when Mrs. Emmanuel reportedly fell off a commercial motorcycle after being hit by a moving truck. Eyewitnesses said the truck, believed to be a hit-and-run vehicle, ran over her before fleeing the scene. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident, describing it as “sad and unfortunate.”

FRSC Sector Commander in Kogi State, Mr. Tenimu Etuku, said rescue officers responded immediately and rushed the victim to the Kogi State Specialist Hospital, where she was confirmed dead. He added that the body of the deceased had been deposited in the hospital’s mortuary.

Etuku also expressed concern over the behaviour of the commercial motorcyclist, who reportedly fled the scene under the guise of pursuing the hit-and-run driver. He warned motorcycle riders against competing with heavy-duty vehicles on highways, noting that such reckless behaviour often leads to avoidable fatalities.
