The University of Ilorin (Unilorin) has named Elizabeth Omolara Kayode as the Overall Best Graduating Student for the 2024/2025 academic session, achieving a near-perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.95 out of a possible 5.00.

The announcement was made on Thursday as a highlight of the university’s 40th convocation ceremonies, which coincide with its landmark 50th-anniversary celebration.

Ms. Kayode, a distinguished graduate of Civil Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, stood out among a total of 11,886 students graduating at the convocation. The university heralded her achievement on its official X page, stating, “Introducing Elizabeth Omolara Kayode, the 2024/2025 Overall Best Graduating Student, with an impressive CGPA of 4.95!”

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Wahab Egbewole, had earlier detailed the convocation statistics at a press briefing on Monday. He revealed that of the nearly twelve thousand graduands, 316 earned First Class honours. A further 4,120 and 5,939 students graduated with Second Class Upper and Lower Division degrees, respectively, while 1,078 earned Third Class, and 11 graduated with a Pass.

The convocation will also see 1,520 post-graduate degrees conferred. The professional programmes are well-represented, with 175 graduands in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS), 94 in Nursing, 40 in Optometry, 36 in Veterinary Medicine, and 64 in Physiotherapy.

“As the University of Ilorin celebrates 50 years of academic distinction, we look back with pride at the strides we have made in nurturing leaders, advancing knowledge, and shaping national and global development,” Professor Egbewole stated, framing the dual celebration as a testament to the institution’s enduring legacy.
