A 19-year-old Nigerian student, Marvelous Ugochukwu, has died after a tragic road accident involving a truck driver who ran a red light in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.
According to eyewitness accounts obtained by Peoples Gazette, the incident occurred at the intersection of Dewdney Avenue and Elphinstone Street last Sunday when a transport truck reportedly sped through a red light, colliding with a car, a bus stop shelter, a fence, and a light pole.

Sources said the teenager was sitting in the bus shelter when the truck rammed into it. “The driver was trying to beat the red light,” one witness said. “He ran into the teenager who was sitting at the bus shelter. It was a terrible scene.”
The Regina Police Service promptly shut down the busy intersection following the fatal crash. In a statement shared on Facebook by Just Bins—a waste disposal company known for breaking local news—the firm confirmed that a woman at the bus stop had been fatally struck. “The driver of the car was transported to hospital, and the driver of the transport truck was reportedly taken into custody on scene by police,” the post read.

Emergency responders pronounced Ms. Ugochukwu dead at the scene, while the injured car driver was taken to hospital for treatment. Authorities later confirmed that the truck driver had been detained for questioning in connection with the accident.
The death of the young Nigerian student has sent shockwaves across the Regina community, particularly among members of the Nigerian Students’ Association, who have expressed grief and outrage over the avoidable tragedy.
A GoFundMe campaign has since been launched to support the Ugochukwu family with funeral and potential legal expenses. A candlelight procession in honour of the late student is scheduled to hold today.

In a statement on social media, Skilled Truckers Canada mourned the loss of Ms. Ugochukwu, with many commenters calling for justice and extending condolences to her family.
