The Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies, Iragbiji, is one of Nigeria’s newly established federal universities created to strengthen national capacity in agriculture, food security, and sustainable development. The institution was officially established following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s approval and signing of the enabling law on February 20, 2025, as part of the government’s efforts to expand access to agricultural and technical education nationwide.
Located in Iragbiji, Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State, FUADSI aims to become a world-class centre of excellence in agricultural research, innovation, and development. Its vision is to deliver sustainable solutions for food security, environmental management, and human advancement, while its mission focuses on providing high-quality education, fostering entrepreneurship, and strengthening community engagement through research and innovation.
The pioneer Vice Chancellor, Professor Mufutau Olaoye Atayese, formerly Deputy Vice Chancellor (Development) at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), leads the institution. Other principal officers include Registrar Afolabi Muritala, Bursar Adeagbo Akeem, and University Librarian Professor Wasiu Lawal.
In preparation for its take-off, the Federal Ministry of Education and the NUC have conducted multiple assessments of FUADSI’s facilities. The temporary take-off site, which recently underwent a major facelift, now boasts lecture halls, administrative offices, and student facilities ready for use. The permanent campus, located on expansive land provided by the Iragbiji community, is also under active development.
