Six UI Students Receive Adebisi Akande Foundation Scholarship Awards

Six outstanding students of the University of Ibadan have emerged as beneficiaries of the inaugural tranche of the Adebisi Akande Foundation Scholarship, instituted by the University’s Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, His Excellency, Chief Adebisi Akande, CFR.

The Registrar of the University, Mr. Ganiyu O. Saliu, fspsp, FCIML, FNIM, MANUPA, MAUA, presented the award letters to the recipients on behalf of the donor. He explained that Chief Akande had directed that all allowances due to him as Pro-Chancellor be deposited into a special account to fund annual scholarships for the best undergraduates in Mathematics, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry.

Mr. Saliu disclosed that the six beneficiaries, all 200-level students, were selected based on their exceptional academic performance in the previous session. He added that the students would continue to enjoy the scholarship annually until the completion of their programmes, provided they maintain top academic standing.

He further assured that the scholarship scheme would continue even if Chief Akande ceases to serve as Pro-Chancellor, emphasizing the donor’s commitment to supporting academic excellence. According to him, a formal recognition ceremony involving the donor and officials of the Adebisi Akande Foundation will be held at a later date.

Encouraging the students to sustain their high performance, the Registrar urged them “not to rest on their oars,” reminding them that “to whom much is given, much is expected.”
