Panic has gripped the Ekiti State University (EKSU) community following a violent daylight robbery at the popular Iworoko Mountain area, where two armed men reportedly attacked students and carted away valuables.
According to eyewitnesses, the assailants, wielding cutlasses and canes, ambushed students who were in the area, dispossessing them of more than 50 mobile phones and other personal belongings. The attack, which occurred without warning, left several students traumatized though no serious injuries were reported.

The incident has sparked widespread anxiety among students, parents, and university staff over the growing insecurity around the EKSU campus.
In a swift response, the university management has advised students to avoid the Iworoko Mountain area until security agencies declare it safe. University authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing in collaboration with the police to track down the perpetrators and recover stolen items.

“Students are strongly advised to stay away from Iworoko Mountain and other isolated areas until further notice. We are working closely with law enforcement to ensure those behind this act are apprehended,” a university spokesperson said.
Following the incident, security patrols and surveillance have been intensified in and around the affected area to prevent a recurrence. The university’s security unit has also begun reviewing its emergency response system and communication channels to improve student safety.
Some students and community residents have called for increased lighting, regular patrols, and visible security presence around the Iworoko axis, describing the attack as “bold and coordinated.”

Meanwhile, students who lost valuables during the robbery have been urged to document their losses and file formal reports with campus security to aid ongoing investigations.
Local police authorities assured the public that efforts are underway to identify and arrest the culprits, while the university reiterated that the safety and welfare of students remain its top priority.
“We are not taking this matter lightly. All necessary measures are being put in place to secure our students and ensure such incidents do not happen again,” the statement added.
