The management of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, has issued a security advisory warning students and staff to remain indoors from 9:00 p.m. daily following reports of a potential security threat around the campus and its host community.

In an internal memorandum signed by the Registrar, R. I. Adebayo, the institution disclosed that the decision followed intelligence reports suggesting the suspected presence of armed herdsmen in Iree and neighbouring areas.

“The entire Polytechnic community, especially students, are hereby informed to stay indoors anytime from 9:00 p.m. in Iree and its environs,” the memo stated.
“This alertness and security awareness arose based on intelligence gathering from the community on the possible presence of some Fulani herdsmen which may likely pose a security threat and endanger movement.”

The management advised students to exercise vigilance and avoid unnecessary movements at night, urging them to promptly report any suspicious activity or perceived danger to the Chief Security Officer via the provided emergency lines — 07033166585 and 07034557451.
While assuring that there is no cause for panic, the Polytechnic explained that the directive was a preventive measure aimed at ensuring the safety of students, staff, and residents within the Iree community.
