Some men leave their mark by titles, others by wealth, but the rarest of all are those who leave it by presence. Rev’d Dr. Emmanuel Oyewole Oyekan is one of such men. To me, he has not only been a pastor or a leader but a true father in every sense of the word. A father not by blood, but by calling, one who shows up, stands by, and gives of himself even when there is nothing for him to gain.

I will never forget how, during my NYSC redeployment to Oyo, he, together with my dad, stood by me as though it was his own battle to fight. He followed me, stayed with me until I was cleared, and poured strength and assurance into me in that critical moment. This is not an isolated act but a reflection of who he is, a man who consistently goes the extra mile for countless others. Sometimes, I find myself wondering: how can one man embody so much compassion, courage, and selflessness all at once?

As a leader, his style is principled and uncompromising. He does not bend to noise, pressure, or convenience. He follows what is right, what is just, and what honours God. He would rather lose favour with men than lose alignment with God. In a world that rewards shortcuts and hypocrisy, this kind of principled leadership is rare.

Yet, beyond principles lies his selflessness. Rev’d Oyekan embodies sacrifice. He has gone to great lengths to ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of his people. Even those who now fight against him cannot deny that they once enjoyed his kindness, protection, and generosity. They may attack him today, but history cannot erase the truth that he once stood for them when no one else would.

His generosity is quiet yet consistent. To him, giving is not a performance; it is a lifestyle. Whether in financial support, time, or prayers, he gives with an open hand and an open heart. Many lives have been lifted because he chose to give when he had every reason to hold back.
Beyond the pulpit, Rev’d Oyekan is a builder of people and institutions. His vision is never self-centred but kingdom-driven. He invests in lives, raises leaders, and plants seeds that outlive him. The fruits of his labour are visible not only in the church he shepherds but in communities touched by his commitment to truth, justice, and love.
There is also his rare courage. Where others may seek the easier path, he takes the narrow road, refusing to compromise his values. He does not stand with the crowd; he stands with Christ. And in doing so, he has shown us that leadership is not about applause but about conviction, the courage to remain unshaken when storms gather and to keep faith alive when others give up.

At 60, his life is an evidence of grace and discipline. He has led a flourishing ministry, mentored generations, raised a strong family, and impacted countless lives across and beyond the church walls. His voice has carried weight in places his enemies can never step into, and his shoes are ones they could never even attempt to wear. No propaganda can erase the rooms he has entered or the crowns he has worn as a servant of God and humanity.
His legacy is not defined by propaganda or lies. What can his detractors boast of? Hatred? Falsehoods? Secret plots? His legacy is seen in the lives he has shaped, the souls he has nurtured, and the seeds he has sown into generations.
Today, he stands in the middle of a trial being cooked and sponsored by the enemy of the gospel. Yet we are encouraged, for vindication will not be private, it will be seen by all. Just as the battles have been public, so too will his victory be public, undeniable, and celebrated by heaven and earth.
To those who rise against him, let heaven be the judge. If he has “wronged” you, let God repay. But if he has served you, blessed you, and sheltered you and you repay him with cruelty, then may the reward of your actions return into your own bosom. You may wage war against him, but you cannot stop the work of God through him.
At 60, therefore, we do not merely celebrate a man; we celebrate a father, a leader, a giver, and a defender of truth. We celebrate a shepherd who refuses to bow to convenience or corruption. We celebrate a man who has carried the burdens of others and stood strong for his people.
Happy 60th birthday, Rev’d Dr. Emmanuel Oyewole Oyekan. May your days ahead be filled with peace, vindication, and greater glory. Your life is a blessing, and your legacy is secure.
