The Students’ Union Government (SUG) election of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, produced Oluwashinaayomi Ogunfowora as the new president after he secured a decisive victory at the polls.
Ogunfowora, a former Public Relations Officer of the union, polled 3,035 votes, representing 76.35% of the total ballots cast. His closest rival, Kehinde Awonusi, garnered 930 votes (23.65%), bringing the total valid votes to 3,975.

The contest, which witnessed massive student participation, has been described by observers as one of the most transparent and peaceful elections in the university’s history.
In the vice-presidential race, Zulfah Muhammed-Omolaja emerged victorious with 408 votes, consolidating the presence of female leadership in the new union executive council.
Speaking shortly after his declaration, Ogunfowora expressed gratitude to TASUED students for entrusting him with their mandate.

“This victory is not just mine but ours as TASUEDites. You have spoken clearly, and I promise to be a president for all, irrespective of who you voted for. We will build an inclusive union that puts students first,” he said.
He also pledged to prioritise welfare and accountability.
“Our administration will seek for better learning conditions, improved student welfare, and stronger engagement with the school management. I am ready to serve with transparency and dedication,” he added.
The new leadership is expected to be sworn in next week under the supervision of the school management.

TASUED, established in 2005 by the Ogun State Government, holds the distinction of being Nigeria’s first specialised university of education. The institution is named after the late Dr. Tai Solarin, the celebrated activist and founder of Mayflower School, Ikenne.
Earlier this year, the university entered a new phase in its history when the Federal Government formally took over its administration, renaming it as a federal university of education.
