A Nigerian father has sparked online debate after calling out his daughter’s school for giving a homework assignment to his 2-year-old child, who has not yet started talking.
In a video that has since gone viral on social media, the visibly upset parent questioned the rationale behind handing out assignments to toddlers, particularly when it was only the second day of resumption.
Expressing his frustration, he demanded a refund of the school fees and vowed never to send his daughter back to the institution. According to him, his decision to enrol the child was to keep her engaged during the day and allow the family some rest at home—not to burden them with academic work.
“Who exactly is supposed to do this assignment?” he asked, pointing out that his daughter could neither read nor speak, let alone complete the task.
The father further argued that it was unfair for parents to pay expensive fees only to end up saddled with doing homework on behalf of toddlers who are clearly unprepared for such tasks.
He concluded his outburst with a stern message to the school’s proprietor, demanding a refund and insisting his daughter would not be returning.
The video has since triggered widespread reactions online, with some parents sympathising with his concerns, while others argued that early assignments can help children develop a learning routine.
