The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has recorded another milestone as six of its undergraduates secured places in The Bridge Fellowship Programme, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most competitive youth leadership initiatives.

The students were chosen from a pool of over 8,000 applicants nationwide, with the fellowship admitting less than five percent of candidates each year. Their selection highlights UNILAG’s reputation for nurturing future leaders through academic excellence, innovation, and service.
The new Bridge Fellows are Oluwaseun Oludemi from the Faculty of Architecture, Kehinde Kadiri and Ugonma Akanwa from the Department of Building, Al-Ameen Abolare from Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Treasure Adeolu from Mechanical Engineering, and Temitope Aiyebogan from Systems Engineering.

The Bridge Fellowship is designed to equip exceptional undergraduates with practical leadership skills, entrepreneurial thinking, and civic engagement opportunities. The goal is to prepare them to drive social and economic transformation across Africa.
Congratulating the six awardees, UNILAG’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, described their success as a reflection of the university’s enduring legacy of producing world-class graduates.
“This achievement underscores the exceptional quality of our students and their readiness to shape Africa’s future through innovation, leadership, and service. We are proud of them and wish them a transformative experience in the programme,” she said.

The fellowship, which runs annually, provides participants with mentorship, intensive training, and opportunities to design and implement impact-driven projects. Beyond theory, the programme ensures fellows make tangible contributions to society while gaining the skills to excel as leaders.
