Olaribikusi Ruling House Petitions AGF Over Eruwa Stool, Case Referred to Oyo State

The lingering dispute over the Eleruwa of Eruwa stool has taken another turn as the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice has forwarded a petition filed by the Olaribikusi Ruling House to the Attorney General of Oyo State for necessary action.

The petition, written by the Olaribikusi Ruling House through their counsel, O. K. Abimbola Esq., accused the Oyo State Government of flagrant disobedience to a series of judgments from different layers of court which had ruled in their favour over the succession to the throne.

In a letter dated July 22, 2025, and signed by Mrs. Maimuna Lami Shiru, Director of Civil Litigation and Public Law Department on behalf of the AGF, the Minister acknowledged receipt of the petition and emphasized that enforcement of the judgments regarding the Eleruwa stool lies within the jurisdiction of the Oyo State Attorney General.

The Olaribikusi family, in their petition, recalled that an Oyo State High Court, the Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan, and the Supreme Court of Nigeria had all delivered judgments since November 2019 nullifying the installation of Mr. Samuel Adebayo Adegbola as Eleruwa of Eruwa.

Despite these judgments, Governor Seyi Makinde in 2025 allegedly violated the court orders by endorsing Adegbola as monarch, an action the ruling house described as a deliberate affront to the rule of law.

“The consistent disobedience of valid court orders by the Oyo State Government has left the Olaribikusi Ruling House with no choice but to escalate the matter to the highest legal authorities in the land,” the petition noted.
