How Anti-EndSARS Campaigner ‘Buhun Barkonun’ Died in Abuja Hotel During Sex Romp

The sudden death of Yunusa Ahmadu Yusuf, popularly known as Buhun Barkonun, a fierce critic of the #EndSARS protests, has stirred shock and controversy after he reportedly died during a hotel encounter with a woman in Abuja.

Yusuf, 47, who was the Senior Special Assistant on Community Development to the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, checked into a hotel in the Karu-Jikwoyi area of the Federal Capital Territory on Tuesday, September 8, 2025, with a woman identified as Ruth.

Sources revealed that while in the hotel, he declined meals but consumed large amounts of alcohol. Trouble began on the morning of his death when Ruth allegedly bought him an energy drink after noticing his deteriorating condition. Shortly after taking it, Yusuf collapsed into a coma.

Hotel staff and Ruth rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police authorities have since opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, with questions being raised about what may have triggered his sudden death.

Yusuf rose to prominence in 2020 for his strong opposition to the #EndSARS protests, a nationwide movement that called for the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) over allegations of police brutality and extrajudicial killings. The protest, which lasted for more than two weeks, culminated in the tragic events of October 20, 2020, at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos.
