Rolan Foundation Launches ‘FeedForward’ Program to Tackle Hunger in Ondo

The Rolan Foundation has rolled out its FeedForward program in Ondo State, an initiative designed to address food insecurity while promoting community resilience and self-reliance.

The two-day program, which ran from September 4 to 5, provided food packs to 250 vulnerable families, alongside public awareness campaigns on nutrition and hygiene, as well as training and empowerment in urban farming for another 250 individuals.

Speaking during the distribution, Program Manager, Adenike Sanusi, explained that the initiative was designed to combine short-term relief with long-term sustainability.
“Our goal is not just to give a handout, but to offer a hand up,” she said.

“The food packs are crucial for immediate relief, but the education and urban farming training are what will truly empower our communities to create their own food security.”

In a statement signed by the National Coordinator, Durami Alhamdu, the foundation conveyed the appreciation of beneficiaries, some of whom described the intervention as timely. One widow and mother of three reportedly shared that she had been worried about how to feed her children for the week, adding that the food pack had provided immediate support while the training gave her hope for the future.

Executive Director of the foundation, Olasunkanmi Raymond, underscored the national significance of the program, stressing that sustainable, localized solutions are vital in addressing Nigeria’s food challenges.

“In a country grappling with economic pressures and food price inflation, localized, sustainable solutions are key,” he said. “The FeedForward program serves as a model for how NGOs can partner with communities to tackle critical challenges by focusing on both immediate needs and long-term empowerment.”

The program, which concluded on Friday, has been described as a lifeline for many of its beneficiaries, leaving a lasting impact on households across Ondo State.
