Young Africans with bold ideas for shaping the continent’s future are being called to participate in the Melton Foundation Global Citizenship Video Essay Competition 2025, organised in partnership with Global Goals Week.

The competition is open to Africans aged 18 to 30, who are invited to submit 2–3 minute video essays addressing how the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can be harnessed to build a better Africa and a stronger world.

Marking the 10th anniversary of the SDGs, the contest offers young change-makers the platform to reflect, innovate, and share solutions under three powerful themes:

-
Reimagining Africa – envisioning Africa’s growth through youth-led action and SDG-driven innovation.
-
Beyond Borders, Beyond Barriers – promoting cross-cultural collaboration, technology, and partnerships to shape Africa’s shared tomorrow.
-
Young Africans as Global Citizens – exploring how youth can balance local realities with global responsibilities in this SDG Decade of Action.

According to organisers, the top five finalists will each receive a $250 gift card, a certificate of achievement, global recognition as a Global Citizen, and have their videos featured on the foundation’s website and social media platforms.
The initiative aligns with Global Goals Week, a global movement dedicated to accelerating progress on the SDGsthrough collective action, partnerships, and shared innovation.
📌 Deadline: Applicants are encouraged to submit their entries early to secure consideration.
📌 Eligibility: Open to all young Africans aged 18–30.
