Big Brain Naija Set to Rival Big Brother Naija as New Reality TV Show Debuts in October

A new reality TV show, Big Brain Naija (#BB9JA), is set to debut in October, with organisers pitching it as an intellectual alternative to the widely followed Big Brother Naija.

The show, organised by Big Brain Productions in collaboration with DAAR Communications Plc, will air on Africa Independent Television (AIT) and will be staged in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

At a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, the Chief Executive Officer of Big Brain Productions, Mr. Kel Ameobi, said the initiative aims to celebrate intelligence, creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship among Nigerian youths.

“Big Brain Naija show was created with a simple but very powerful vision: to build a reality TV show where intelligence meets entertainment,” Ameobi said. “For too long, we’ve watched our youths engage in shows filled with noise and emptiness, while the brightest amongst us have no stage to shine. Big Brain Naija is not a house of immorality but a stage for ideas.”

Backing the project, Chief Executive Officer of DAAR Communications Plc, Mr. Marcel Anyalechi, commended the initiative, stressing that it would redefine Nigeria’s entertainment landscape by blending creativity with innovation.

Season one of the show will feature 37 contestants representing all 36 states and the FCT. In a first for Africa, the competition will be judged by AI-powered judges. The winner will go home with a brand-new car and ₦30 million cash.

According to Chief Operating Officer of Big Brain Naija, Ossai Ilome, the show is designed to reflect the industrious, intelligent, and visionary nature Nigerians are known for globally.

Although Big Brain Naija focuses on intelligence and impact, organisers said entertainment will not be left out, making it a “reality show with a difference” and a direct rival to Big Brother Naija, which has dominated Nigerian screens for years.
