The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has been plunged into grief following the reported suicide of a dental student, allegedly moments after learning his examination results.
The Ife University Dental Students’ Association (IFUDSA) confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its president, Adebayo Idris, describing it as a devastating loss to the Faculty of Dentistry.

“It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of one of our colleagues. We received the painful news that he took his own life shortly after the release of examination results,” Idris said.
He described the deceased as a promising young mind whose death serves as a painful reminder of the silent battles many students face. The association extended condolences to his family, friends, classmates, and all who knew him.
Idris urged students to seek help and support one another during difficult times. “We understand that this tragedy will leave many in shock, with emotions that may be hard to process. We encourage members of our faculty to reach out, offer support, and seek professional help when needed. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and no one should feel alone in their struggles,” he said.
He further pledged IFUDSA’s commitment to improving student welfare and mental health advocacy to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
