The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, on Wednesday met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abass, and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, as part of efforts to build networks for the development of Yorubaland.
The monarch was accompanied by his wife, Olori Abiwumi Owoade; Prince Akeem Adeyemi, member representing Oyo Federal Constituency; and Alhaji AbdulWasiu Adebisi.

During the courtesy visit to the Speaker, Abass briefed the Alaafin on bills and motions sponsored in support of Nigeria’s traditional institutions.
He described the engagement as “warm, engaging, and deeply enriching,” adding that the House had consistently supported monarchs in 2025 and would continue to do so. At the meeting with the IGP, Egbetokun highlighted the vital role of traditional institutions in ensuring the safety and security of communities and the nation at large.
He pledged stronger collaboration between the Police Force and traditional rulers to enhance grassroots inclusivity, peace, and sustainable development.
