Ibom Air Bans Passenger for Life After Mid-Air Assault on Crew

Ibom Airlines Limited has permanently banned a passenger, Ms. Comfort Emmanson, following her violent assault on crew members aboard a Uyo-to-Lagos flight on Sunday.

In a statement issued on Monday, the airline said Emmanson defied standard aviation safety rules by refusing to switch off her mobile phone before take-off. The confrontation escalated after a fellow passenger switched off the device, triggering a verbal outburst from Emmanson.

“Upon arrival in Lagos, Ms. Emmanson waited for other passengers to disembark before attacking the Purser who had earlier instructed her,” the airline said. “She stepped on her, tore off her wig, removed her glasses, and slapped her repeatedly. When another cabin crew member intervened, she also slapped her.”

According to Ibom Air, the passenger also attempted to seize a fire extinguisher, allegedly intending to damage the aircraft. The Pilot-in-Command alerted security, but Emmanson attacked the airline’s security personnel and the ground supervisor before being restrained and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force.

The airline has submitted a report to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and confirmed that Emmanson will no longer be allowed to board any of its flights.

“We commend the bravery and professionalism of our crew in handling this situation under extremely challenging circumstances,” the statement added.
