How Over 1.9 Million Nigerians Applied for Civil Defence, Immigration, Fire Service Jobs Despite Portal Glitches

No fewer than 1,911,141 Nigerians applied for the 2025 Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) recruitment exercise before the application portal closed on Monday, August 11.

The process, which was marred by repeated portal crashes and temporary suspensions, saw the recruitment start date moved multiple times — from the initial June 26 launch to July 14, and then to July 21. The application deadline, initially August 4, was extended by one week to August 11 due to technical hitches.

Figures from the CDCFIB website show Kogi (116,162), Kaduna (114,536), and Benue (110,565) recorded the highest number of applicants, while Bayelsa (11,669) and Lagos (14,216) had the fewest. The top five states — Kogi, Kaduna, Benue, Kano, and Niger — accounted for 510,174 applicants, while the bottom five — Bayelsa, Lagos, Rivers, Ebonyi, and Delta — together submitted 99,658 applications.

Following the close of applications, CDCFIB announced via its official X account that shortlisted candidates will soon be contacted with instructions on the next stage of the recruitment process.

The board advised applicants to monitor their email and text messages, and to regularly check its portal and social media platforms for updates.

“Recruitment Applications Closed! We thank all applicants for their interest and commitment to serving with honour, integrity, and national pride,” the statement read.

“Shortlisted candidates will be contacted shortly with further instructions.”
