The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, has reported the disappearance of Dorcas Oseghale, a 300-level Chemistry student, to the police.
According to a statement by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, Oseghale, with matric number CHM/2021/165, was last seen around 8 p.m. on August 6, 2025.

She reportedly left her residence at Adesanmi House, Ibadan Road, to buy food near the Students’ Village along Ede Road but never returned. Attempts by her roommate, identified as Akinkuade Omobolanle Beatrice, to reach her by phone were unsuccessful as both of her mobile lines were unreachable.
The university said its Security Unit began monitoring online discussions on student social media platforms on August 7 after receiving the initial report. By 6:10 p.m. that day, a group of Chemistry students, accompanied by Beatrice, formally lodged a missing person report with campus security.
Given the complexity of the case and limited internal resources, the Security Unit assigned three officers to work with the students and relay preliminary findings to the police.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Simeon Bamire commended the students’ swift action in raising the alarm and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to locate Oseghale.
He appealed to members of the public with any information on her whereabouts to contact the nearest police station or the university’s Security Unit.
