Telecommunications Company, 9mobile Rebrands to T2

Nigeria’s telecommunications company, 9mobile, has officially rebranded to T2, unveiling its new identity on Friday at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos.

The rebrand comes a year after LH Telecommunication Limited acquired a 95.5% majority stake in the network provider, taking over control and steering it towards a new strategic direction. This marks the company’s second name change since it transitioned from Etisalat to 9mobile in 2017.

Speaking at the unveiling, Femi Banigbe, CEO of Emerging Markets Telecommunication Services Limited (EMTS), described the move as “the beginning of a bold new chapter” for the brand.

“This is not just a brand unveiling, it is the beginning of a bold new chapter in our history… We are becoming something more ambitious,” he said.

Banigbe explained that the transformation goes beyond a logo change, representing a renewed mission to meet Nigerians’ increasing demand for speed, access, and relevance.

Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, praised the development, highlighting the growth of Nigeria’s telecom sector from fewer than one million mobile lines in 2001 to over 220 million today, with broadband penetration nearing 50%.

“Let this rebrand be more than a change of colours… Let it be a renewed commitment to innovation and service excellence,” Tijani urged.

Tijani assured that the government would continue to support industry players like T2 who invest boldly and adapt quickly to market demands.
