In a dramatic reversal mirroring JAMB’s earlier post-exam review, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has reviewed the 2025 WASSCE results, announcing that 62.96% of candidates now have at least five credits including English Language and Mathematics, the minimum requirement for tertiary admission in Nigeria.
This comes just days after the results were initially released, sparking nationwide concern when it was revealed that only 38% of candidates had met the benchmark—marking it the worst WASSCE performance in over a decade.

WAEC attributed the previous record-low pass rate to technical glitches and bugs, discovered during a post-result internal review, particularly affecting major subjects like English, Mathematics, Biology, and Economics due to a new paper serialization system.
Following the update, access to the online result checker portal was briefly suspended. However, candidates are now encouraged to re-check their results after the corrections.
