The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has once again shared his deeply personal vision of how he believes he will depart from this world — peacefully, on a Sunday, shortly after eating his favourite meal of pounded yam.
Speaking during the fourth day of RCCG’s annual International Convention, themed “The Overcomers”, the revered cleric said his death would not come through prolonged illness or suffering but as a sudden, painless transition after worship.
“I will die on a Sunday after attending service, eat my beloved pounded yam, and then pass on without any sickness,” he declared to thousands of worshippers, reiterating a statement he first made two years ago.

Adeboye emphasized that believers should not fear death, noting that for those in Christ, it can be peaceful and dignified. He made the declaration while delivering a sermon titled “Possess Your Possessions”, encouraging Christians to actively claim the blessings already given to them by God.
Citing the example of the Israelites who had to fight to occupy the Promised Land, he urged believers to be spiritually aggressive in taking hold of their inheritance.
“In many cases, you may have to fight for what is already yours — your healing, your prosperity, your fruitfulness, your long life,” he said.
Quoting John 10:10, Adeboye reminded the congregation that while Jesus offers abundant life, the devil works to steal, kill, and destroy: “Long life is yours, but the devil wants to kill you. You must fight to live.”
On the subject of wealth, he boldly declared: “The One who owns the earth and its fullness paid a terrible price so that you wouldn’t be poor. If you choose to remain poor, that’s your decision.”
He also criticised the double standards faced by wealthy Christians: “If you succeed, they criticise you. If you die poor, they say, ‘Where is your God?’”
Adeboye’s message was a call to spiritual warfare against poverty, sickness, barrenness, and premature death — what he called “tolerated oppressions.” He ended his sermon with a reference to Jacob’s encounter with an angel, urging believers to fight with the same perseverance.
“It is what we tolerate that disturbs us. Stop tolerating the devil’s schemes. Possess your possessions — it is your right through Christ.”
