The University of Ibadan Students’ Union (UI’SU) has released its July 2025 newsletter, highlighting a wide range of impactful student-focused initiatives, from the disbursement of over ₦2 million in bursaries to free transport services and financial support from music star Spyro.
The update, shared by the Office of the Public Relations Officer, Adekanmbi Ezekiel (popularly known as Eazy-DBigPROpeller), offers both encouragement and vital information to students navigating the demanding exam season.
₦2 Million Bursary Reaches Nearly 100 Students

At the heart of the newsletter is a major welfare milestone: the disbursement of over ₦2 million under the UI’SU Bursary Scheme. The fund supported close to 100 indigent students with either full or partial school fee payments. This intervention was designed to ensure that financial hardship does not derail students’ academic journeys.
“It’s not just about money,” the Union emphasized, “but about preserving dreams and keeping hope alive.”
The application for this scheme remains open to indigent students, with the Union encouraging more students in need to apply via an accessible online form.
School Fee Relief: Penalty Waived, Deadline Extended
In addition to the bursary, the Union negotiated a crucial extension in the school fee payment deadline. Initially extended for two weeks, the window was further prolonged by an extra week, giving breathing space to hundreds of students. Most notably, the Union also secured a full waiver of the ₦20,000 late payment penalty—an unprecedented achievement in recent years.
Free Bus Scheme Transports Over 2,000 Students

Through the Assistant General Secretary’s office, the Union coordinated a large-scale transportation effort, providing free shuttle services for more than 2,000 students writing their GES exams. This welfare intervention ensured students got to their centres safely and on time, without the burden of extra transport costs.
Exam Relief Programme: Meals and Raw Food Support

In a bid to ensure that “no UITE writes an exam on an empty stomach,” the Union distributed raw foodstuff packages to over 350 students. Additionally, partnerships with campus cafeterias enabled daily cooked meals to be served to students in need during exams. This dual strategy was part of the UI’SU’s broader Exam Relief Programme aimed at reducing student stress during the season.
Mega Tutorials Empower Freshers

From July 3rd to 5th, the UI’SU hosted Mega Tutorials specifically designed for freshers tackling GES 107, GES 108, and GST 111. Held at the CBN Lecture Theatre, the sessions featured past question reviews, mock exams, and practical study tips. Hundreds of first-year students participated, gaining the tools and confidence to approach their exams more strategically.
Spyro Returns—And Pays School Fees

In a much-celebrated entertainment-meets-welfare moment, the Union, in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts, brought back Spyro—the “Who is Your Guy” hitmaker—for a live concert on July 4th. More than just vibes, Spyro’s return came with tangible benefits: he covered school fees for several students from his own pocket. The Union hailed the event as “a powerful symbol of student empowerment through entertainment.”
UITES Win National Scrabble Medals

The Union also applauded students who represented UI at the 2024 National Sports Festival and the National Scrabble Championship (UISC), especially Kingsley Enyi, who emerged as champion. These victories highlight UITES’ excellence not just in academics, but in extracurriculars as well.
Health Outreach Tackles Bedbugs, Sexual Health

In collaboration with the Sigma Club, UI’SU hosted a health outreach on June 28 focused on two critical areas: managing bedbug infestations and promoting sexual and reproductive health. Sanitarian Oladunjoye led a sensitization session on hygiene, while sanitary pads and condoms were distributed alongside education on consent and safety.
What’s Next: Financial Conference and Human Capital Development Project
Looking ahead, the Union is gearing up for a massive financial conference in partnership with L-H Investment Ltd. The event will cover income opportunities, real estate, and practical financial literacy for students. Also in the pipeline is the Human Capital Development Project—a bold initiative to equip students with skills for life beyond UI.
As exams continue, the Union reaffirmed its open-door policy: “If you need help, speak up. We’re here. We care. And we’ll always show up.”
