President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has rewarded Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, with $100,000 each, national honours, and luxury flats, following their landmark fifth consecutive AfroBasket Women’s Championshipvictory.
The announcement was made during a special reception held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Monday, where the President — represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima — hailed the team for their “discipline, resilience, and for bringing immense pride to Nigeria.”

Each member of the victorious squad was conferred with the Order of the Niger (OON), just as they received $100,000 and a flat — replicating the gesture extended to the Super Falcons last week after their 10th WAFCON title.
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and other top government officials were on hand to receive the team and their coaching crew led by Head Coach Rena Wakama at the State House’s New Banquet Hall.
D’Tigress arrived at the forecourt of the President’s office shortly before 5 p.m., fresh from their triumph in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, where they defeated Mali 78–64 in the final at the Palais des Sports de Treichville on Sunday night. The win secured Nigeria’s seventh AfroBasket title overall, and further cemented their dominance as the undisputed queens of African basketball.
