President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that the University of Maiduguri will now be known as Muhammadu Buhari University, in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The announcement was made on Thursday during a special session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in Abuja, where government officials paid tribute to Buhari, who passed away earlier this week. Buhari served as both a military ruler and two-term civilian president, leaving a lasting legacy in Nigeria’s political and military history.
President Tinubu described the renaming as a gesture of national gratitude, highlighting Buhari’s decades of public service and strong ties to the North-East region.
The Ministry of Education is expected to release further details on the formal implementation of the name change in the coming days.
