The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has revealed that troops of Operation Safe Haven bravely rejected a ₦13.7 million bribe offered by terrorists during a recent operation in Plateau State.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, disclosed this on Thursday during a bi-weekly press briefing on ongoing military operations across the country.
According to Kangye, troops were responding to distress calls between July 9 and 16, 2025, when they encountered armed extremists in Bassa, Barkin Ladi, South Wase, Riyom, and Jos East LGAs of Plateau State, as well as Kaura and Sanga LGAs in Kaduna State.

“During one of the patrols on July 9 along the Jos-Sanga Road, troops intercepted a bullet-riddled vehicle. The suspects inside attempted to bribe the soldiers with ₦13,742,000, but our gallant troops rejected the offer,” he said.
He added that the troops arrested two suspects and recovered weapons, ammunition, the vehicle, and the cash. “The suspects are currently under investigation while all recovered items remain in military custody,” Kangye stated.
Overall, within the week-long operations, troops neutralised several terrorists, arrested 12 suspects, and rescued three kidnapped victims. They also recovered firearms, motorcycles, illicit drugs, and other logistics from various locations.
The DHQ praised the troops for their integrity and urged the public to continue supporting the military’s efforts to restore peace and security across the country.
