The Omituntun Initiative in Diaspora (OID) has launched the 2025 edition of the Seyi Makinde Annual Essay Competition, inviting young Nigerians—particularly students who are either residents or indigenes of Oyo State—to showcase their ideas on leadership, technology, agriculture, and sustainability.
Open to individuals aged 18 to 35 who are enrolled in recognised Nigerian institutions (undergraduate or postgraduate), the competition promotes youth empowerment, civic engagement, and innovative thinking aligned with Governor Seyi Makinde’s developmental agenda.

Participants can choose from four thought-provoking topics including:

Artificial Intelligence and Technological Innovation for Oyo State’s Development

Climate-Smart Farming and Food Security
-
Youth Leadership, Innovation, and Civic Engagement
-
Community Action for Environmental Sustainability
Essays (1,000–1,500 words) must be original, well-researched, and submitted in Microsoft Word format in English. Plagiarism or AI-generated content will lead to disqualification.
Prizes include:

₦1,000,000 for the overall winner

₦500,000 for second place
-
₦250,000 for third place

Top 50 participants will also gain admission into the OID Global Leadership Academy with certificates of recognition.
