JUST IN: NELFUND Resumes Student Upkeep Disbursements After Account Update Delays

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has resumed the disbursement of upkeep allowances to student beneficiaries following a temporary delay caused by issues with digital wallet banking platforms.

In a statement issued on Friday, July 11, the Director of Corporate Communications at NELFUND, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, confirmed that over 3,600 students have now received their delayed payments after successfully updating their bank account details from digital wallets to traditional commercial bank accounts on the NELFUND portal.

“This marks a major breakthrough in resolving the delays experienced by students. We appreciate the patience and understanding of all affected students during this period,” she stated.

Students who have not yet received their upkeep stipends and are still using digital-only banking accounts have been urged to take immediate action. According to Oluwatuyi, such students should raise a support ticket via the official NELFUND portal to request permission to update their banking information. Alternatively, they can report through their institution’s IT office, which will compile and forward all unresolved cases to NELFUND.

“We remain committed to ensuring no eligible student is left behind,” Oluwatuyi said. “This resolution is part of a broader effort to make our services more efficient, transparent, and student-centred.”

The Fund also advised students to rely solely on official communication channels to avoid misinformation and ensure smooth processing.

The recent update comes as NELFUND continues its nationwide rollout of education support services, aimed at enhancing access and reducing financial barriers for students across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
