Nollywood actress and social advocate Iyabo Ojo has responded to a trending video showing a group of men cursing her on the streets of Lagos and accusing her of obstructing justice in the case of late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
The men were seen chanting “E no go better for Iyabo Ojo” during a protest allegedly linked to perceived interference in the ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.
In a detailed Instagram post on Wednesday, Ojo expressed her dismay over the accusations, stating clearly that she never alleged any specific individual was responsible for the singer’s death.
“All of these steps clearly point to the fact that I never affirmed that Mohbad’s death was caused by any specific individual. Otherwise, I would not have taken the legal and investigative actions I did,” she wrote.
Iyabo revealed that through her NGO, the Pinkies Foundation, she petitioned several state authorities — including the Lagos State Governor, Attorney General, and Commissioner of Police — for a thorough and independent investigation and a coroner’s inquest.
She added that she met with senior police officials and members of the Lagos State House of Assembly to push for a transparent probe, but insisted she had no influence over how the police conducted their investigations.
“I can not dictate how the police should conduct their investigations,” she said, adding that the police had also invited Mohbad’s wife, brother, and others during their inquiries.
Reacting to the threats against her life, Ojo lamented the silence of authorities despite the consistent abuse, violence, and threats targeted at her and her children over the years — especially after the 2023 general elections where she publicly voiced political opinions.
“A few days before my daughter’s wedding in Tanzania, I received a letter threatening my life… Now, I see coffins with my name on them and public videos threatening my life and business,” she disclosed.
She linked the continued attacks to her outspokenness on political and social matters and noted that her office had recently been destroyed by fire.
Despite these challenges, the actress said she remained committed to seeking justice lawfully and was willing to honour further police invitations.
“I have always sought justice through the proper authorities, bearing all expenses personally through my foundation,” she wrote.
Iyabo concluded her statement by thanking the public and police for their support, and expressed her hope for divine protection:
“Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but God will deliver me from them all. I trust that God will ultimately give me victory over adversity.”
