Apply Now: French Embassy Opens Applications for €15,000 Digital Education Grant in Nigerian Universities

The Embassy of France in Abuja has announced a call for applications to support the creation of Digital Resource Centres in Nigerian universities, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote linguistic and educational cooperation.

The initiative is aimed at enhancing French language learning, improving students’ digital and professional skills, and strengthening overall employability through innovative educational resources and international partnerships.

Project Objectives

According to the Embassy, the centres will:

  • Facilitate access to digital educational materials in French;

  • Strengthen students’ digital capabilities and transversal skills;

  • Modernize the teaching of French in Nigerian institutions;

  • Promote pedagogical innovation and global collaboration.

Funding Details

Selected universities will receive a maximum grant of €15,000 per institution. The funding is earmarked for:

  • Procurement of digital equipment,

  • Staff training, and

  • Execution of pedagogical activities.

Universities are also encouraged to offer institutional support, such as providing space, personnel, and internet access to ensure the project’s sustainability.

Eligibility Criteria

Applications are open to:

  • Public or private accredited universities in Nigeria;

  • Institutions with an existing French department or a French language programme;

  • Universities willing to dedicate physical space for the centre and support its medium-term operations.

Selection Criteria

Proposals will be judged based on:

  • Quality and relevance of the proposed project (30%)

  • Institutional capacity and readiness (20%)

  • Expected impact on student skills and learning (20%)

  • Sustainability and long-term viability (15%)

  • Quality of proposed local or international partnerships (15%)

How to Apply

Interested institutions must submit:

  • A project description note (max. 5 pages)

  • A detailed provisional budget

  • A commitment letter from the university’s Vice-Chancellor or leadership

  • CVs of key personnel involved

  • Photos or floor plans of the proposed space (optional but appreciated)
